2018 Annual Report

Posted On: 12/14/2018

In 2018, we continued on our path to make Midland the healthiest community in Texas. Our Lifestyle Medicine Center expanded their program offerings to include yoga sessions, Community CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program), weekly educational classes on various lifestyle medicine topics, and a special Eat to Beat Cancer class series. The center is also the only facility in Texas to offer the Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease—a noninvasive and scientifically-proven program shown to reverse heart disease through diet and lifestyle.

Twelve new providers were brought to our area including five hospitalists, a urologist, a cardiologist, a family medicine physician, an orthopedic surgeon, a dermatologist, a maternal and fetal medicine physician, and an otolaryngologist—a joint effort with Midland Development Corporation to expand our network of healthcare providers and specialties. Stay tuned in Spring 2019 for the roll-out of BasinMD.com, a new telehealth service that will allow patients to visit with a provider 24/7 using their smartphone, tablet, or computer.

More providers signed up for Midland Quality Alliance, a clinically integrated network of healthcare delivery that ties payments to quality metrics and cost of care. MQA allows for synergy between hospital staff, primary care providers and post-acute care facilities to ensure each patient has a coordinated plan of care. This was made possible with the implementation of Beacon, our new electronic health record that launched in June. Also this year, we received accreditation as a Level II NICU, and a full build-out of a Level III NICU space will begin in 2019, fully funded by charitable donations from our community. We also partnered with Midland County Public Library Foundation to launch the Born to Read initiative, to provide a new book to every baby born at our hospital and encourage parents to read to their children.
