Job Description 

Shift and Schedule

Full Time: 11:00P-7:00A and 3:00P-11:00P

Position Summary  

  • Perform routine and special laboratory tests within the different laboratory departments; the areas included are hematology, immunology, bacteriology, chemistry, serology, and microscopy.
  • Analyze quality-control data and take appropriate action when results are outside acceptable limits.
  • Utilize knowledge of laboratory information systems in areas of phlebotomy, specimen handling and processing to review reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications.
  • Call critical test results to physicians and nurses immediately and report distribution as required.
  • Be able to use applicable laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, meters, microscopes, incubators, pipettes, autoclaves, and sterilizers.
  • Perform clerical functions such as maintaining files and assisting in inventory
  • Attend department meetings as well as trainings and participate in laboratory continuing education programs to ensure quality outcome.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Medical Technologist 
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Minimum of two years as a Medical Technologist, preferred.
  • Completion of Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science Training.
  • Certification as a MT by the Board of ASCP, CLS by NCA, HEW or ISCLT is recommended.
  • Must meet CLIA requirements for job description.
Lab Technician 
  • Associate's degree or higher
  • No experience necessary.
  • Must provide documentation of successful completion of a Medical Technology / Clinical Laboratory Science training program.
  • Promotion by authority of the Department Manager based on performance and not experience.
  • Must provide documentation of passing a National Certification exam (American Society Clinical Pathology, AMT, etc.) or eligible. Passing of National Exam must be completed within 12 months of employment.
