Medical Assistant – Permian Cardiology

The Medical Assistant is responsible for participating and assisting in the care of the patient, under the direct supervision of the Health Care Provider and in collaboration with the healthcare team.  The Medical Assistant performs both administrative and clinical duties to support and represent the Providers and the Organization in a professional manner.  Medical Assistants are instrumental in helping patient’s feel at ease and often explain the Providers instructions as directed.

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

Full TIME 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. (30 min lunch) 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

·  Provide exceptional customer service to our patients in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice and individuality.

·  Recognize obstacles and notify patients of wait time.

·  Collect and verify patient information through interview process. Review medical histories, current allergies, obtain preferred pharmacy and medications. Obtain and record patient’s vital signs: pulse, blood pressure, weight and height.

·  Report patient concerns and abnormal findings to the practitioner and record appropriately in a timely manner. 

·  Assist patients to exam room and prepare patients for examination. Assist patient in wheelchairs to and from exam table, and scales utilizing proper body mechanics and safety measures.

·  Organize patient care activities based on assessment findings.

·  Assist practitioner as needed/requested in identified patient procedures, treatments, and examinations.

·  Other clinical duties may include but are not limited to authorizing prescription refills as directed, drawing blood, taking electrocardiograms as indicted by physician’s protocol, registering and placing holter monitor on patient and provide education to patient on instructions for use and when to return the monitor

·  Alert the Provider and/or RN, LVN to the patients need for education, assist with doctor referrals, complete medication refills.

·  Provide appropriate patient education, health information materials and community resources list as directed, and maintain educational supplies.

·  Cleaning the exam room in between patients.

·  Complete delegated tasks with proper documentation in medical record

·  Provide feedback to person for incomplete delegated task (MD, NP, PA, RN, LVN) to determine next step.

·  Stock and maintain exam room and clinic area with standard levels of supplies, linens, forms and equipment. Follow ordering procedure to maintain necessary inventory of supplies, linens, forms and equipment. Recognize patient care trends affecting unit supplies and notify clinic manager.

·  Operate clinical equipment according to equipment procedures. Regularly check clinic area and rooms for any malfunctioning equipment and general maintenance problems. Report findings to appropriate person.

·  Perform related tasks, which include requests for prescription refills, responding to phone calls, taking and relaying messages, and directing patient flow. Facilitate communication between the patient and the provider.

·  Administrative duties include but are not limited to: using computer applications, answering phones, greeting patients, updating patient medical records, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services and handling correspondence

·  Participate in staff meetings and provide input, utilize problem solving skills, and provide resolutions in order to assist in creating a positive work environment.

·  Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the organization.

·  Adhere to all the centers standard policies and procedures including HIPAA, infection control, fire and safety, human resources, and departmental procedures. Maintain strictest confidentiality.

·  Use effective communication with other staff members to provide quality patient care

·  Work as part of a team to facilitate quality patient care

·  Maintain a professional attitude and work attire and adhere to office policies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

·  This position requires knowledge of clinical standards, practices, and procedures.

·  Advanced communication skills: able to effectively relate via the telephone and in-person to serve the needs of the patients, clients and visitors in a manner that is efficient and productive.

·  Cardiology Medical Assistant experience is preferred.

·  Nationally recognized certification is preferred.

·  Bi-lingual is preferred.

Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
