Following the tragic train accident that gripped our community November 15th 2012, Midland Memorial Hospital made the decision to not bill any of those involved in the accident who came to our facility to receive care.
After learning of our decision, a local philanthropist decided to give a generous donation to the hospital in an effort to cover some of the costs the hospital incurred for treating these patients. The anonymous donor then challenged the Hospital Board members to match the gift and the response was incredible.
Permian Basin Area Foundation (www.pbaf.org) facilitated the collection of gifts from numerous benevolent donors and made a grant to Midland Memorial Hospital in the amount of $100,000 for the costs of mass casualty medical services incurred by the hospital.
This extraordinary gift serves as just another reminder of how thoughtful and giving our community really is, especially in times of tragedy.
