Midland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Celebrates 70 Years

Posted On: 1/13/2020
The Midland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will celebrate 70 years on January 14, 2020. The celebration will take place at 11:00 am in the Hospital's Main Lobby.

The 86 Charter Members from 1950 will be highlighted, along with Auxiliary Past Presidents.

Between 1950 and 2019, Auxiliary members have given 1,549,440 hours of time to the community of Midland. At a value of $12.00 an hour, that adds up to a total of $18,593,280.00. In addition to time, the Auxiliary gives gifts of equipment to the hospital. The total amount in gifts given since 1950 is $4,714,417.52.

The very first gift given to the hospital from the Auxiliary was for lobby furnishings and one child's room furnishings in the amount of $3,200. The Auxiliary held a fundraiser called Follies that incorporated singing and dancing. This led to the beginning of Summer Mummers. The most recent gift given to the hospital was in August 2019 for Labor and Delivery beds, monitors, stretchers and a new front door totaling $250,000.

The Auxiliary currently has 105 active members and operates the Gift Shop, Surgery Waiting Room, Popcorn Station, Golf Cart Transportation, New Mothers Gifts and staffs the Information Desk. Most of the current volunteers work four hours a week.
