Cardiopulmonary

The Cardiopulmonary and Neurology Department at Midland Memorial Hospital offers a wide variety of services to help diagnose and treat specific disease processes. The most commonly diagnosed and treated disease processes consist of those dealing with the lungs, heart and nervous system.

The department is primarily staffed by respiratory therapists who specialize in aiding patients with the relief of symptoms relating to certain ailments. Respiratory therapists are found in every aspect of patient care and treat patients at every stage of life.

We have several different areas of expertise and different methods to help. The following is just a small sample of what is offered:

Mechanical Ventilation

Initiation, maintenance, and monitoring of the machines used to assist in breathing

Small Volume Nebulizer (SVN)

Used to deliver medication directly to the lungs and ease shortness of breath

Arterial Blood Gas (ABG)

A diagnostic blood test to determine the proper functioning of the lungs and kidneys

Pulse Oximetry

A non-invasive method to measure the oxygen in your blood

BiPAP/CPAP

Machines used to help maintain a proper airway and help aid in maintaining oxygen levels, primarily during sleep

Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)

A diagnostic test to measure the working level and disease process of the lungs

Electroencephalogram (EEG)

A diagnostic test to measure the electrical activity of the brain

Polysomnogram (PSG)

An overnight sleep study used to diagnose sleep disturbances

Electrocardiogram (EKG)

A test to measure the electrical activity of the heart
