About Raed Abdulkareem, MD
Dr. Abdulkareem specializes in cardiothoracic surgery, with expertise in coronary artery bypass
grafting, valve surgery including transcatheter valve therapies, aortic surgery, pacemaker
implantation, and lung resections. He has advanced training in aortic surgery, including
procedures involving the aortic root, ascending aorta, and aortic arch aneurysms. He is board
certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Abdulkareem completed his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago
School of Medicine, followed by cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh
School of Medicine. He went on to serve as Associate Staff at the Cleveland Clinic, where he was
involved in complex cardiac procedures, advanced aortic and transplant cases. He further
advanced his career at Indiana University, where he worked as a cardiac surgeon and was
appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery.
Guided by strong family ties and a commitment to giving back,
Dr. Abdulkareem relocated to the
Midland–Odessa area to provide high-quality care and serve the local community. His treatment
philosophy centers on delivering care with the compassion, attentiveness, and respect he would
expect for his own family members.
During his free time, Dr. Abdulkareem enjoys watching movies, following soccer, and keeping up
with sports and entertainment. He values spending quality time with family and friends. He also
has an interest in cooking, exploring diverse cuisines, long-distance travel, and experiencing
different cultures.
