Midland Memorial Hospital has achieved the Level 3 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA). The GEDA program recognizes emergency departments that provide excellent care for older adults. The accreditation makes the MMH Emergency Department one of only 9 in the State of Texas and only one in the Permian Basin to earn the achievement.

"The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) sets national standards for the practice of Emergency Medicine. Through the GEDA, ACEP works to provide accreditation to EDs that meet its standards for Geriatric emergency care.  The accreditation we have received provides external verification that our emergency room in Midland meets or exceeds national standards for care of the elderly," said Dr. John Petersen, CEO/Owner of Midland Emergency Managers.  "Our older local citizens have unique needs and providing an environment that is as safe and comfortable as possible for them is a high priority, to achieve this common goal it takes the efforts of hospital administrators, nurses, and physicians all cooperating."

The voluntary GEDA program, which includes three levels similar to trauma center designations, provides specific criteria and goals for emergency clinicians and administrators to target. The accreditation process provides more than two dozen best practices for geriatric patients.

According to ACEP, MMH is led by a remarkable team of inter-disciplinary leaders and the accreditation signals the continued focus on the highest standards of care for your communities’ older adults.

“This accreditation is a testament to the high standard of care we are dedicated to providing our community and patients,” says Dana Taylor, MSN, RN, CA/CP SANE, CVRN-BC, CEN, CNML, Director of Emergency Services at Midland Memorial Hospital. "I am extremely proud of our team for this accomplishment."
