Midland Health Chief Nursing Officer Kit Bredimus Begins Term as President of Texas Nurses Association

Midland nurse executive to lead the statewide professional nursing association of more than 16,000 members through 2028

Dr. Kit Bredimus, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Nursing at Midland Health, has begun his term as President of the Texas Nurses Association following his election to lead the organization through 2028.

The Texas Nurses Association is the oldest and largest nursing association in Texas and represents more than 16,000 nurse members across the state. Founded in 1907, TNA serves as the professional voice of nursing in Texas, advancing the profession through legislative advocacy, nursing practice, education, professional development, workforce initiatives, and support for nurses across a wide variety of specialties and practice settings.

Bredimus brings a distinctly West Texas perspective to the statewide role. A native Midlander, he began his nursing career at Midland Memorial Hospital as a bedside nurse in the Emergency Department and today serves as the organization’s Chief Nursing Officer. His career has included leadership at the local, state, and national levels, with a focus on developing the nursing workforce, strengthening nursing leadership, improving the practice environment, and elevating the voice of nurses in health care.

“What happens in Austin ultimately affects nurses at the bedside in every community across Texas. At the same time, the experiences of nurses in those communities is going to be different in Dallas and Houston than it is in the Permian Basin, the valley, and other smaller communities that need to inform the conversations happening at the state level. I want TNA to continue building those connections and ensuring all nurses have a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect their practice and their patients.” Dr. Kit Bredimus

During his term, Bredimus plans to focus on strengthening engagement across the state, expanding opportunities for nursing students and early career nurses to become involved in professional leadership, building stronger leadership pipelines, and continuing TNA’s role as an influential voice in public policy and nursing practice. The association is also preparing for the 2027 Texas legislative session, where nurses from across the state will advocate on issues affecting the nursing workforce, practice environment, patient care, and the health of Texans.

Bredimus has been nationally recognized for his contributions to nursing leadership. His honors include Modern Healthcare’s Rising Star in Nursing Award and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership Early Careerist Award. He has also been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as a Rising Star in Healthcare and as a CNO to Know. He is a Board Certified Executive Nurse Leader and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, and the National Academies of Practice. Bredimus has also served as the president of the Texas Nurses Foundation.
