Midland Memorial Hospital Introduces New Baby Box Program

Posted On: 7/25/2017
Baby Everly

Midland Memorial Hospital is proud to become one of the first hospitals in West Texas to be a designated Baby Box Co. distribution center. Baby Everly of Odessa, TX was the first baby at MMH to receive a Baby Box.

The purpose of these boxes is to educate new parents on safe sleep practices and to provide infants with a safe sleep space in an effort to reduce SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Baby Boxes can be used for the baby's first five to six months of life and are to be placed either on the floor next to the bed, or safely on the bed.

Infants born at Midland Memorial Hospital will be given the opportunity to go home with a free Baby Box. Prior to leaving the hospital, parents will need to register at BabyBoxUniversity.com. After providing their nurse with the email address used to create their account, they will receive one Baby Box per infant. Parents are encouraged to watch at least three of the short videos on BabyBoxUniversity.com, but it is not mandatory.

Boxes like these have been used in Finland since the 1930's and were recently introduced into the United States by The Baby Box Co. headquartered in Los Angeles. Each Baby Box is made of durable cardboard and comes with a firm mattress pad and fitted sheet, as well as a lid which turns the box into a keepsake after the infant outgrows the box.
