MMH ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY DIVERSION OF TRAUMA SURGERIES

Posted On: 2/9/2026

Update 11:19 AM 2/20/26
As of last night, the steam delivery system at Midland Memorial Hospital is fully operational. Instrument sterilization has resumed, and all processes are operating within stringent healthcare standards, including ongoing compliance monitoring. We sincerely thank our community for your patience, understanding, and continued trust during this time. The support from our neighbors, along with the assistance of our partners in Odessa and Stanton, reflects the true spirit of West Texas and what can be accomplished when we work together. Our commitment remains unchanged: every decision we make is centered on patient safety and the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care.

Update 9:26 PM 2/15/2026

While our team has been working to repair the sterilization system, it was discovered that air is in the lines. Due to this, we have started to vent the air to clear the lines. This is causing a noise that is echoing off our facility, sounding like a plane or train. It is actively being monitored by our facility team and engineering consultants to ensure a safe evacuation of the lines. Please do not be alarmed and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Update 3:52 PM 2/15/2026

Midland Memorial Hospital remains off diversion; however, our sterilization system is still undergoing repair. We have been able to maintain normal operations through our continued collaboration with MCH and ORMC to ensure all necessary instruments are properly sterilized.

Our team continues to work tirelessly to fully resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We appreciate the continued support and will share additional updates as progress continues to return to standard operations

Update 4:36PM 2/12/2026

Effective immediately, Midland Memorial Hospital (MMH) is no longer on diversion.
While our on-campus sterilizers remain temporarily out of service, we have partnered with our friends at Medical Center Hospital (MCH) and Odessa Regional Medical Center (ORMC) to sterilize critical instruments, ensuring we can continue providing safe, high-quality patient care. This collaboration has allowed us to come off of diversion, but we remain closed to out-of-county transfers.
Our teams are working diligently to fully resolve the sterilizer issue. We will provide additional updates once we return to normal on-campus sterilization operations.

Update 2:25PM 2/10/2026

Currently, Midland Memorial Hospital (MMH) remains on diversion of all trauma surgeries. Crews are working diligently to repair the hospital's sterilization equipment. An alternative sterilization process is being developed. We thank you for your continued understanding and support as we work to resolve this matter as soon as possible. Updates will be provided as additional information is available.

Effective immediately, Midland Memorial Hospital (MMH) is on temporary diversion of all trauma surgeries. During this diversion period, patients requiring trauma surgery who are transported by ambulance will be taken to alternate facilities. The diversion is necessary due to temporary issues with hospital sterilization equipment.

MMH staff and our vendor partner Steris are actively working to repair the sterilizers, and the situation is being closely monitored. Updates will be provided as additional information is available.

MMH will continue scheduled surgeries at this time unless you have received communication with alternative instructions.

In addition, MMH is temporarily closed to out-of-county patient transfers for surgical procedures. MMH remains committed to ensuring patient safety and high-quality care. We appreciate the community’s understanding as we work to resolve this matter as quickly as possible.
