Spiritual Care

Midland Memorial Hospital recognizes that the proper, respectful spiritual care of our patients and their families is very important. We are committed to inclusive spiritual care for our patients, families, and staff, delivered with compassion and respect.

The hospital chaplaincy staff and a group of volunteer ministers are available to all of our patients, families, and staff for spiritual and emotional support. They are available at any time, 24 hours a day and seven days a week, for visitation, prayer, or to contact someone from your home church or denomination.

Our multi-faith chapel is located on the first floor near the main entrance of the Scharbauer Patient Tower. The chapel is open at all times to people of all faiths, offering a quiet place for prayer, reflection and meditation.

Our Spiritual Care staff offers patients and their families the following:

  • Encouragement and a listening ear during difficult times
  • Support in the use of personal resources of faith when dealing with an illness
  • Prayer before and/or after a procedure if requested
  • Practical help and comfort in times of grief and in crisis situations
  • Help to explore questions of faith and spirituality
  • Congratulations for the birth of children, progress in recovery, or the healing of an illness

When providing these services, our staff performs a number of activities, including the following:

  • Visiting the patient, family member, or staff member at their request
  • Responding to medical emergencies
  • Providing the patient and family information regarding support groups
  • Helping them contact clergy of their own religious tradition
