Midland Health Celebrates National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week
This week, Midland Health is recognizing and celebrating National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week. Throughout this week, we are promoting healthy living and the balance of mind, body, and spirit. We at Midland Health are invested in caring from the heart every day of every year. Join us in thanking the many individuals who give their all to their neighbors. From providing medical care in our facilities to running vital programs in our community, we are committed to supporting the health and well-being in and around the greater Midland area to become the healthiest community in Texas.
National Nurses Week always begins on May 6th and ends on Florence Nightingale’s birthday, May 12th (1820). National Hospital Week always falls on the week (Sunday-Saturday) of her birthday as well. Nightingale defied the expectations of the time and pursued her calling as a nurse. During the Crimean War, she and a team of nurses improved the unsanitary conditions at a British base hospital, greatly improving infection control and reducing death. Her writings sparked worldwide healthcare reform, and in 1860 she established St. Thomas’s Hospital and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses. She died on August 13, 1910, in London. Nightingale is revered a hero and the founder of modern nursing.
At Midland Health, we recognize our 600 nurses and 2,000 employees for all they do each day to provide for an exceptional experience for our patients and community. Throughout the week, we will celebrate with activities such as:
- Recognizing employees who have graduated this past year
- Recognizing employees who have presented our successes with others in the region, state, nation, and internationally
- Releasing our Nurses & Hospital Week Video (click here to watch on YouTube)
- Offering healthy demonstrations and presentations including: healthy cooking, Zumba, infused water, massages, mindfulness, mental health, PureBarre, essential oils, and master gardeners
- Showing our commitment to volunteer opportunities in our community including: West Texas Food Bank, Midland Soup Kitchen Ministry, Helping Hands, Habitat for Humanity, and Breaking Bread Soup Kitchen
- Celebrating our people as they are recognized for their Professional Excellence at an award ceremony on May 12th as we also celebrate Florence Nightingale’s birthday
- Celebrating those entering the nursing profession at the nurse pinning ceremonies of Midland College (May 10th) and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (May 12th)
Anyone may join us at Midland Memorial Hospital for these activities to recognize our nurses and employees. You may also like our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter, @MidlandMemorial and use the hashtags #NursesWeek and #HospitalWeek.
We celebrate along with our academic, ambulatory, and post-acute care partners the women and men who support the health and wellbeing of our community through dedication and compassionate care from the heart. Take this year’s National Nurses and Hospital Week as an opportunity to thank all of the dedicated individuals – board members, medical providers, nurses, therapists, technologists, engineers, food service workers, volunteers, healthcare leaders, and so many more – for their contributions.
