New Confirmed Case is Physician

Posted On: 4/22/2020

The City of Midland Health Department is currently conducting their investigation on one new confirmed case of COVID-19 in Midland County, bringing the overall case count to 67.

The 67th confirmed case is a male in his 30s who was tested by Midland Health. The male is a physician who practices in the critical care unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. He is currently isolating at home. The source of exposure is contact to known case.

Midland Health immediately tested this physician when notified of a fever and required him to self-isolate until further notice. The other physicians and staff working alongside this physician maintained proper PPE while at work. While rounding on patients, the physician was wearing an N95 mask as well.

Out of an abundance of caution, Midland Health has tested 9 physicians for potential exposure and is monitoring 41 employees. At this time, none of these individuals have developed symptoms. They will each be conducting self-monitoring twice a day. The physician’s non-COVID patient contacts are being traced at this time. They will be monitored and tested if they develop symptoms.

The City of Midland Health Department will continue to monitor the positive case in accordance with the CDC.
