Registered nurse latest to earn DAISY Award

Karly Eaton, a registered nurse in the Labor and Delivery Unit, is Midland Memorial Hospital’s latest DAISY Award winner.

Eaton was nominated for the prestigious DAISY Award by a patient who took the time to write the DAISY nominations months after her visit to recognize the extraordinary care she received by Karly. The patient wrote the following:

“Karly Eaton was my labor and delivery nurse to my first born. I’m sorry it has taken so long to write this; I had my son in November 2021. Karly took her time with me and was very kind with a calming demeanor. I got overwhelmed when she told me it was time to start pushing and she immediately reassured me that I was made for and deserved to be a mom. Throughout the whole pushing process, Karly encouraged me, was kind to my mom and boyfriend. After delivery, I began to have a postpartum hemorrhage, in that time she acted fast. Karly talked me through the whole thing. After I was stable and trying to get my fever and shakes down, Karly came into my room and did not leave my side after the postpartum hemorrhage. She only left to go get medicine if needed. Karly encouraged me and reassured me and took really good care of me. I thank her for the kindness, the genuine love, and positivity from her heart. Everyone deserves to have a nurse like her, Karly made my whole experience wonderful.”

It is because of Karly’s compassionate and caring efforts that her patient experienced a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families feel at home. Congratulations, Karly Eaton!

The DAISY Award is an international nursing recognition program created to honor nurses who provide extraordinary compassionate care. Midland Memorial Hospital (MMH) is one of more than 4900 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing worldwide that recognizes their nurses with this prestigious award. Anyone in the facility can nominate a nurse, be it a patient or visitor, another nurse, physician, or any other staff member – anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care being provided by a nurse.
